just like legos

After patiently waiting through rainy days, we were able to set the Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) in place today. Once careful measurements are made, putting the forms up was a breeze. We'll brace the forms with 2x4's tomorrow and hopefully by Saturday, the site will have dried out a bit and we'll get the skid-steer in there to pour the foundation walls.

rain, rain, go away

Final prep for the footer is complete. The form-a-drain is in, filled with gravel, rebar cut and set and everything is square. Now if the rain would only ease up for a day or two, we can set the ICF and pour concrete.

prepped for footer and power!

Piper and I met with AEP this morning about where the power lines will come in. After going through many options, we agreed on setting a pole on the far side of the driveway, which will avoid having the unsightly meter attached to the house.

The trench is dug and we're ready for the footer to be poured. Piper is off to buy the plumbing supplies and we'll soon be underway!

driveway done

Driveway complete!

park in a driveway, drive on a parkway

Bright and early this morning, our excavator Ralph came out to start breaking ground. He was moving fast and by 8:45 he was off to get the first load of gravel. I am eagerly awaiting the end of my workday and the completion of our driveway.

a little piece of history

Many a time we would drive past a pile of old oak beams on the side of a country road. We stopped one evening to inquire, and over a generous dinner of fried chicken and green beans, we learned from friendly folk that the beams were from the historic Landmark Building, a grainery torn down a few years ago. Several conversations later, we will be picking up several of these massive beauties for the house.
